Classes with Glenn in County Carlow
One of the most established woodturners in Ireland today is Glenn Lucas. Glenn has a flexible approach and will aim to meet your individual turning needs – beginners, intermediate or advanced. Group and private classes available. Contact Glenn to talk about your course preference - 1 day, 2 day or 3 day; mid-week or weekend. €130 per day for a group class, €220 per day for private tuition.
ONE-DAY CLASS AT €130 PER PERSON
Max per class is three. Glenn will take your preferred dates and make a class of similar skilled participants. It is essential to book in advance and a deposit cheque of €50 or a payment using paypal button above, will secure your booking. Gift vouchers available! Classes run from 9.30-5.00 with a break for tea/coffee and a break for a home-cooked lunch.
Practical details
Each turner has a top of the range lathe and tool panel with all necessary tools and chucks. All wood is supplied. If you wish to bring your own tools please feel free to do so.
What you will learn
You will go home with your own handturned piece, for example – rolling pin, bowl, platter, lamp base, bud vase…
Basic skills are given attention in the structure of each course

- • Spindle techniques
- • face plate techniques
- • getting the best finish on your work
- • getting the most out of your material, advice on drying and wood selection

From Dublin
- • From the M50 take the M7. After Naas take the M9 Kilkenny/Waterford Road
- • Get off the M9 at the N80 to Rosslare
- • Drive approx 4 miles and pass Fighting Cocks pub (landmark) – half a mile after this pub go to the centre of the road and turn RIGHT to Fenagh/Garryhill/Milltown Engineering
- • Drive 4 miles and straight through Fenagh village and LEFT at the top of the village for Garryhill
- • 4 miles further and you pass (landmark) Garryhill Handball Club on your right, straight on the Borris Road for another 1.5 miles and take a RIGHT at the first crossroads (with sign) – you will see a white sign for Glenn Lucas Woodturning
- • We are the first house on the left – new cream coloured bungalow, two sheds behind
From Carlow
- • Take the N9 Kilkenny road
- • Drive for approx 10 mins
- • Watch carefully for signs here – turn left for Bagenalstown (also called Muine Bheag) at junction called Royal Oak
- • Drive into Bagenalstown until you have to stop in the centre of town at a roundabout, and turn right for Borris (R705)
- • Just as you leave the town take a left (L3001) following signs for Kiltealy, Ashlawn Garden Centre
- • Drive a windy main road for 6 miles until you reach a STOP sign at a crossroads. Turn left.
- • Drive for one mile and take next LEFT (you will see a brown sign for Templemoling Cemetery here).

From Kilkenny City
- • Take the M9 Dublin Road
- • After approx 15 miles turn off the M9 for Bagenalstown/Paulstown/Leighlinbridge
- • Watch for a RIGHT for Bagenalstown
- • Drive into Bagenalstown until you have to stop in the centre of town at a roundabout, and turn right for Borris (R705)
- • Just as you leave the town take a left (L3001) following signs for Kiltealy, Ashlawn Garden Centre
- • Drive a windy main road for 6 miles until you reach a STOP sign at a crossroads. Turn LEFT.

From Enniscorthy, Co Wexford
- • Take the Kiltealy Road R702
- • In Kiltealy take the Borris/Bagenalstown road
- • Watch out for signs for Rathanna/Mount Leinster TV mast
- • Turn right at this junction
- • Drive up and across the hill for approx 5 miles until you reach a stop sign
- • Turn right –sign post for Borris and Garryhill.
